2 charged with Maine car burglary spree

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Police in South Portland have charged two young men with breaking into more than a dozen cars early Saturday, and say they were arrested as they headed into a parking lot containing several hundred more vehicles.

Officers say at least 15 vehicles were broken into.

Two 20-year-old South Portland men, David Butler and Sean Elwell, were arrested shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday as they entered a parking lot at South Portland High School. Police say several hundred vehicles were parked there for a nearby charity event.

Investigators say they found stolen property on the men and other stolen items on the ground where they were arrested.
