TRENTON, Maine — An accident Friday morning on Route 3 has resulted in two men being sent to a Bangor hospital.

The accident occurred around 6 a.m. when two pickup trucks collided head-on near the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound, at the north end of the causeway to Mount Desert Island, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.

William Brownlee, 29, of Ellsworth, was driving a 2000 GMC truck south on the highway as Brad Kenney, 31, of Mount Desert was driving a 2001 Chevrolet truck north,

Sgt. Scott Kane indicated in a preliminary report about the accident.

Kane wrote in the report that Kenney’s vehicle crossed the center line of the road and collided head-on with Brownlee’s truck in the southbound lane.

Both men had to be extricated from their vehicles by the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department. They then were transferred to hospitals, first to Maine Coast Memorial

Hospital in Ellsworth and then to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Lt. Tim Cote

said the injuries for both men are considered serious. Kenney had multiple injuries while Brownlee had multiple leg injuries, Kane wrote in the report.

Cote said around 10 a.m. Friday that the cause of the accident was still being investigated.

He declined to indicate whether the rainy weather Friday morning was a factor in the accident or if the two men were wearing seat belts.

Both trucks were destroyed in the collision.

Cote said more information may be made available on this afternoon.
