AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine homeowners who face foreclosures will get help saving their homes if a bill that’s won final legislative approval is signed into law.

Rep. Sharon Treat’s bill, modeled after a law in Connecticut, sets up a mediation program to help people avoid losing their homes. The Hallowell Democrat says her bill also provides counseling for homeowners facing foreclosure and makes it easier for them to get through the court system.

The Kennebec Journal of Augusta says the bill won final House and Senate approval Wednesday.

Lenders, consumer advocates and the state court system all support the bill. printed on August 17, 2017
