PORTLAND, Maine — Maine will be getting more than $3 million in Trade Adjustment Assistance to help displaced workers whose jobs were lost because of outsourcing and foreign competition.

The funding was announced Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Labor, which released more than $450 million in supplemental funds nationwide. The money was made available as part of the federal stimulus package.

Labor Secretary Hilda Solis said the money will enable workers to upgrade existing skills or retrain for new careers in industries that have potential for growth.

More than $27 million was earmarked for New England, including more than $1.3 million for New Hampshire and $558,082 for Vermont.
