Lincoln library kicks off summer reading programs

LINCOLN, Maine — The Lincoln Memorial Library has a host of activities lined up for the summer. They include:

ä For children under 5, Pam Fuller, nutritionist from the Maine Extension Service, will provide story time each week beginning at 10:30 a.m. July 8.

ä The school-age summer reading program will “Get Creative” beginning June 23 and ending Aug. 11. Each week children will attend one of two sessions at 10:30 a.m. or 4 p.m. Tuesdays.

Children will participate in an activity and submit a written story for publication in the Library’s Summer Program newsletter every two weeks.

Activities include creating library pet rocks, traveling to the land of make-believe, building fairy houses and Lego creations, a musical zoo (music from around the world), creating a sidewalk-chalk mural in the back parking lot and creating a paper summer reading program library quilt.

For Family Fun week, families are invited to participate in the first Library Talent show.

ä Teen readers will have their own summer reading program with four activities throughout the summer, including a poetry slam and a writing workshop. Library worker Shandi Daigle has created a reader’s advisory card for the teen program.

Two gift baskets will be donated for the teen program. The program will be called “Express Yourself at Your Lincoln Memorial Library.” It will begin at 4 p.m. June 26, and end on Aug. 14.

ä The adult reading program “Chill Out at Your Lincoln Memorial Library” begins today, June 10, and ends Aug. 5. Six gift baskets have been donated.

Adult readers read their favorite books, complete reader advisory cards and for each reader advisory card turned in they will receive a free raffle ticket. The more one reads, the greater the chance of winning.

Part of the summer reading program benefits will include free ticket vouchers to Portland Sea Dogs minor league baseball games in Portland. Fifty ticket vouchers are available to children who sign up for the “Get Creative at Your Lincoln Memorial Library” program.

The first 50 summer reading program packets will have one ticket voucher that can be exchanged for a game ticket on the following dates: July 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, 24; Aug. 4, 5, 7, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24; and Sept. 1, 2, 3 or 4.
