AUGUSTA, Maine — There will be $55,000 available for a Percent for Art project at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor with a submission deadline of July 23, the Maine Arts Commission announced this week.
A five-person Percent for Art selection committee is looking for a single Maine artist or team of Maine artists to create artwork for the newly constructed green space surrounded by Maine, Katahdin, Acadia and Kineo halls, according to the MAC announcement.
“The committee is interested in work that will encourage the sense of community within the school and act as a unifying element for the entire facility,” the announcement read.
Artists also may consider the pathways, building exteriors and immediate interiors of buildings in their proposals. Materials and design ideas for outdoor projects should take into consideration the site conditions and winter weather.
The project is open only to professional artists ages 18 and over who work in Maine. Employees of EMCC are ineligible.
Interested artists should submit a budget proposal that must cover all design, fabrication, transportation, documentation and installation expenses, including any site modification associated with the artwork. The selection committee will judge submissions and recommend artists to invite for a second round of evaluation.
Artists selected for the second round will receive a $750 design fee for refining their proposals.
Preliminary materials, including a current resume, brief written proposal, rough budget estimate, five digital images of recent work with an accompanying list of the images, must be received by midnight July 23. All materials should be in digital form. For more information on submission and eligibility requirements, contact Alison Ferris at the Maine Arts Commission at 287-2710 or email@example.com.
Maine’s Percent for Art law reserves 1 percent of the construction funds for all state-funded building projects to provide artwork for the public areas of these buildings.
