The Bangor Daily News this week launched a local business directory, beginning with more than 13,000 businesses in a four-county region, with plans to expand statewide in the coming months.
The directory, part of its Maineville suite of social and business sites, has gathers all local businesses in Penobscot, Hancock, Kennebec and Waldo counties into a single site, divided the businesses into searchable categories (restaurants, plumbers, doctors, auto repair, etc.) and presented each business’ address and location on a map, with options for the businesses to add their logos for free and other features, such as product lists, store hours, photos, discounts and more at an affordable rate.
The site allows businesses to manage their pages with easy-to-use tools that allow for changes daily — restaurants can post specials, hardware stores may want to offer a daily discount, an accountant may want to change her hours of operation.
The goal of the site is to provide an affordable, effective way for local businesses to be found on the web when Maine residents search for goods and services.
