Sale to benefit Newburgh Fire Department

You will find “clothing, books, housewares, dishes, furniture, toys and more,” wrote Linda Hamilton of the Newburgh Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary’s annual Spring Yard and Bake Sale.

That fundraiser is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 5-6, at the Newburgh firehouse on Route 9.

Proceeds help support Fire Department activities “including equipment purchases and training,” Hamilton wrote.

Proceeds from previous fundraisers have enabled the auxiliary to spend more than $6,000 on purchases of “equipment to complement the Jaws of Life program, and continue training.”

“And, of course,” Hamilton added, “some of the best bakers in town donate to the Bake Sale.”


St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church is sponsoring a Blood Drive 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the church, 21 Holyoke St., Brewer.

“The Maine Blood Center, through their Partnership in Giving program, are donating $5, for each unit collected, to the church,” Lisa Chambers reports.

Proceeds from the drive will benefit little Maggie Rudnicki, who has “Diamond Blackfan anemia and cannot make her own red blood cells,” Chambers explained. The youngster “requires two-to-three transfusions a month.”

Patrick Myers reports Center Theatre celebrates the third birthday of the Slightly Off-Center Players with a PG-13 comedy, “Moonlight and Magnolias,” at 7 p.m. Friday, June 5, at the Dover-Foxcroft theater.

Other shows are 2 and 7 p.m. June 6, 7 p.m. June 11, 7 p.m. June 12, and 2 and 7 p.m. June 13.

Admission is $10 and $8 for theater members.

Victoria Eastman e-mailed PAWS animal shelter’s annual Yard Sale is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 5-6, at 39 Clinton St., Milo.

Renee Smith, activity director at Sunbury Village, reports it is hosting a benefit for the Maine Troop Greeters organization.

A Buffet Dinner is 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Sunbury Village, 922 Ohio St., Bangor.

Featuring a Dixieland Band concert at 6:30 p.m., the event is open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door.

Brenda Sprague of Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor reports the hospital is offering a Safe Sitter Class 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the hospital to teach boys and girls age 11-13 “how to handle emergencies when caring for children, and so much more!”

Kathie Norwood of Downeast Health Services invites children up to 10 to participate in “Little Folks on Spokes,” a bicycle safety event in association with Downeast Folks on Spokes: Bike to Benefit Children, 9-11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at Maine Coast Community Dental Clinic, 70 Kingsland Crossing in Ellsworth.

Children should bring bikes and helmets, and helmets will be available for a $6 donation.

There is no admission to attend the sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.


Chairman Deb Paton and members of Zonta Club of Bangor invite you to their Perennial Plant Sale 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Bruns Chiropractic Center, 371 Union St., Bangor.

More than 800 plants and 40 varieties of perennials are available along with hostas, day lilies, ground cover and some annuals.

Proceeds benefit Zonta’s local and international service projects.
