AUGUSTA, Maine — Moving to put off discussion of new gambling proposals until next year, the Maine House of Representatives has come out against allowing a resort casino in Oxford County.
Wednesday’s vote against the proposal was 90-55.
Last month, the Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee called for studies to establish a clear gambling policy for the state.
Maine voters last fall rejected a citizen-initiated referendum proposal to allow an Oxford County casino. Maine now has only one casino, Hollywood Slots in Bangor, which is owned by Penn National Gaming Inc. and is tied to the commercial harness race track in the city.
