PORTLAND, Maine — A proposal to establish a National Offshore Wind Research Center at the University of Maine will be up for discussion Friday in Washington, D.C.

Sen. Susan Collins says Energy Secretary Steven Chu will talk about the plan with Professor Habib Dagher. Gov. John Baldacci, Collins, Sen. Olympia Snowe and Rep. Mike Michaud are also expected to attend the meeting.

Collins recalled Dagher’s testimony last year at a Senate hearing in which he said wind power could supply up to 40 percent of the nation’s energy.

Collins invited Chu to meet for a discussion of renewable energy and energy efficiency demonstration projects in Maine that could serve as a model for the “green energy economy.”
