FORT FAIRFIELD and CARIBOU – Darrell A. Doody, 58, beloved husband of Vaida P. (Henderson) Doody, passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 1, 2009, at his Fort Fairfield residence. He was born Dec. 17, 1950, in Caribou, the son of Floyd and Mable (Doody) Quist. He was a graduate of Caribou High School, Class of 1969 and married Vaida P. Henderson, Sept. 4, 1970. He had been employed at Loring Air Force Base, as a snow removal worker for 20 years; Lane Construction Corp. for more than 20 years; drove the mobile magnetic resonance imaging – MRI machine for Mobile Med Co. for 10 years; and most recently was employed as a bus driver for Loring Job Corps, Limestone. Darrell will be remembered as the ultimate tease, who lovingly referred to his grandchildren as “Ralph” and “Sally”. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, especially in the Aroostook River near his home and also enjoyed leisurely motorcycle rides, often with his wife, Vaida. He kept an impeccable lawn and deeply enjoyed a good Tim Horton’s coffee. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mrs. Vaida P. Doody of Fort Fairfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Misty and Don Smith of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick; his parents, Floyd and Mable Quist of Caribou; one brother and sister-in-law, Leroy L. and Dora Doody of Rio Rancho, N.M.; one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Bob Miller of Nicholasville, Ky.; two grandchildren, Caleb “Ralph” and Katlin “Sally” Smith, both of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick; several nieces and nephews, and many cousins. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, at Celebration Center, 170 Houlton Road, Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Union Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Doody to Carl Robert Dream Foundation, 320 North Caribou Road, Fort Fairfield, ME 04742. Envelopes will be available at both the funeral home and the church.
