PORTLAND, Maine — A vigil in Portland for an 18-year-old woman who was found slain on Memorial Day drew more than 150 people.

Family and friends of Zoe Sarnacki, along with strangers appalled by her violent death, turned out Monday evening outside the Cumberland Avenue apartment building where the South Portland woman was killed.

The Portland Press Herald said the vigil was organized by advocates for victims of domestic violence.

Chad Gurney, the 27-year-old tenant of the apartment where Sarnacki’s body was found has been charged with her murder and with setting fire to the dwelling.
