High-speed ferry trips from Nova Scotia start Sunday

PORTLAND, Maine — The Maine-to-Nova Scotia high-speed ferry is gearing up to begin operations for the 2009 summer season.

The Cat, a catamaran that travel at speeds up to 40 knots, will makes its inaugural run of the season on Sunday afternoon when it departs Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, for Bar Harbor. The boat will then begin its regular early-season schedule, with a crossing back to Yarmouth departing from Bar Harbor at 8 a.m. Monday.

From now until July 3, the Cat will go from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings and from Portland to Yarmouth on Friday and Sunday mornings.

Crossings from Yarmouth to Bar Harbor will take place on Monday and Tuesday afternoons and crossings from Yarmouth to Portland will occur on Thursday, Friday and Sunday afternoons.
