Part of Buck Street closed for derby races

Posted May 29, 2009, at 11:04 p.m.

To accommodate the 14th annual Eastern Maine Soap Box Derby races being held in Bangor today, the city has closed Buck Street between Main and Third streets to all vehicles, with the exception of local traffic between Third Street and Ingrid’s Flower Shop on Buck Street. The races are set to begin at 7 a.m. and wrap up by early evening at the latest.

The southbound lane of Main Street that runs toward Hampden also will be closed from Lincoln Street to Dutton Street because that lane will serve as a “chute” for trucks to transport derby cars back to the starting line.
