Teen driver killed in fiery crash in Baring

BARING, Maine — A teenager was killed Saturday evening when the vehicle he was driving went off the Charlotte Road, hit a tree and caught fire, according to a press release from the Maine State Police Sgt. Jeffrey D. Ingemi.

Nicholas White, 16, whose town of residence was not available Sunday morning, was trapped inside the vehicle which reportedly caught fire, the release said.

Three 16-year-old female passengers who also were trapped in the vehicle escaped with the help of passers-by.

White was unable to be removed from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Ingemi said in the release that speed was a factor in the crash. It was unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Trooper Jason Fowler is the lead investigator in the crash. An accident reconstruction and forensic mapping was conducted.
