Kiwanis seeking help to pay for fireworks

BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor-Brewer Kiwanis is seeking financial assistance to assure a quality fireworks display is provided to those attending the annual July Fourth celebration along the banks of the Penobscot River this year.

Because of the faltering economy, the local Kiwanians, who organize the annual display, are asking the public to donate to help pay the cost of the fireworks. The goal is $25,000. To date, approximately $15,000 has been raised. As part of the fundraising effort, the Bangor Daily News will run a weekly “firecracker” graphic detailing the dollars raised on Page B1 beginning on Tuesday, June 2, and continuing through Tuesday, June 30.

Those who want to contribute may send a contribution to the Greater Bangor July 4th Corp., care of Bangor Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 1161, Bangor 04402-1161.
