Maine issues air quality warning

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine environmental officials are warning of high ozone levels.

The Department of Environmental Protection says Thursday’s ground-level ozone concentrations are expected to reach unhealthy levels along southern and coastal areas and the western interior for children, the elderly and people with asthma and heart problems.

Officials say the high ozone levels are brought on by a combination of high temperatures, clear skies and southwest winds from regions that have high ozone concentrations.

It’s the second ozone alert of the season. The first alert was issued on April 24, but officials say ozone never reached unhealthy levels on that day.
