The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — The number of swine flu cases continues to grow nationwide, but the number is dropping in Maine.

The Maine Center for Disease Control announced Tuesday that the number of confirmed or probable swine flu cases stands at nine in the state. Officials say five previously announced cases have been ruled out by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

The breakdown for the remaining cases is three adults and one youth in York County, two adults and two youths in Cumberland County, and one youth in Penobscot County.

The U.S. CDC says 47 states and District of Columbia have combined 5,469 confirmed and probable cases. In Maine, all victims including one adult who was hospitalized are recovering.
