PITTSFIELD, Maine — “Anyone looking for employment in the region has a great opportunity coming up in Pittsfield,” Town Manager Kathryn Ruth said this week. The town is hosting the Regional Job Fair for Kennebec and Somerset counties, as well as the Sebasticook Valley Area.
It is set for 3:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at the Warsaw Middle School Gym and Cafeteria on 167 School St. The event is free and open to the public.
“This job fair will provide a chance for employers and laid off workers as well as those who are underemployed to meet,” Ruth said. “As we had such an amazing turnout at the Regional Job Fair last year, we wanted to bring the event to the region again. With so many people out of work across the state, the job fair will also concentrate on resource providers and free workshops.”
Ruth said at least 21 employers and staffing agencies have registered to attend, as well as many resource providers.
Ruth said there are free workshops and informational sessions on such topics as:
— Starting a Business — Is it Right for Me?
— WorkReady Information Session.
— Essentials of College Planning.
— Tips for the Online Job Search.
— How to Budget your Money in Tight Times.
Resources will also be available for those businesses looking to expand and for people looking to start businesses. The Girl Scouts will be selling refreshments in the cafeteria as one of their many fundraisers to pay for a trip to Washington, D.C., for the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts. Any nonprofits that would like to sell refreshments to earn funds for your projects, contact the Pittsfield Town Office at 487-3136.
