Troops collect food for Clifton pantry

CLIFTON – Through the efforts of local Girl Scouts, a food pantry has been established at Clifton United Baptist Church. The pantry, open to anyone in need, operates 2-4 p.m. Mondays.

Daisy and Brownie troops from the Eddington School participated in the Food from the Heart food drive to bring awareness to the needs of families in the community.

After the collection, troop leaders contacted Baptist church officials, asking that space be donated for the food. Pastor John Walsh agreed that the church should be involved in meeting any need.

Troops 534, 1322 and 862, consisting of 41 girls, collected 310 prepackaged and canned food items. They placed decorated food donation boxes at locations in Eddington and Clifton.

Those interested in receiving food or taking food to those in need may call the church at 843-5441. The food is given out anonymously, according to church officials.

The pantry also will accept donations of nonperishable food for further distribution, church officials said.

Troop leaders are Ann Verschoor, Jennifer Robertson, Marie Baillargeon, Jamie Rennebu, Holly Seymour and Renee Watters.
