ATV club membership drive

EDDINGTON – The Airline ATV Riders will hold a membership drive 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at the Eddington Town Office. A cookout and display by area dealers with 2009 ATV models and equipment will be part of the event.

The club’s goal is to increase enthusiasm for and promote the safe handling of ATVs. For more information, call Paul Gargan at 843-5811.

Golf tournament

HERMON – The third annual Putt for the Club Golf Tournament will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Hermon Meadows Golf Club. The event will benefit the Penobscot Nation Boys and Girls Club.

The event will offer contests, awards and prizes for a hole-in-one, longest drive, closest to the pin, and first, second and third place for gross and net.

Walk on the wild side

ORLAND – Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust will sponsor a Wildlands Bird Walk at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 16.

Meet Peter McKinley and Cheri Domina at the Great Pond Mountain Wildlands North Gate and go on a search for warblers, thrushes, waterfowl and other spring migrants. The easy hike of about one mile goes to a beaver pond and back. There will be a group for experienced birders and another for those newer to birding.

Peter McKinley is director of forestland conservation at the Forest Society of Maine, and Cheri Domina is executive director of Great Pond Mountain Trust. Both are lifelong birders.
