STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The University of Maine men’s baseball team split is Saturday series with Stony Brook, but it wasn’t enough to earn the Bears a playoff spot.

The Bears fell 17-7 in Saturday’s opener at University Field, but won 6-5 in 10 innings in the nightcap.

The Bears’ loss in the opener, coupled with Vermont’s sweep of Binghamton Saturday ended the Black Bears’ hopes of making the America East playoffs.

Vermont beat Binghamton 16-5 in the opener and 14-8 in the nightcap. With the sweep, Vermont claimed the fourth spot in the playoffs and Maine was eliminated for the second consecutive year.

In other America East action, Albany beat Hartford 15-3 in the opener and 10-6 in the nightcap.
