PRINCETON – Homer S. Townsend Sr., 87, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Calais Regional Hospital. Homer was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Calais, son of the late Harry and Nellie (Rockwood) Townsend. He was employed for Georgia Pacific for 45 years. Homer was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Teton. He served as a town council member and on the Woodland School Board. Homer was a charter member of Spednic Club and enjoyed people watching. Surviving are his children, Homer Townsend Jr. of Mesa, Ariz., David Townsend and his wife, Barbara, of Baileyville, Harold Townsend of Princeton and Terri Townsend of Portland; 10 grandchildren, Dale Townsend and his wife, Melissa, Michelle Shoaf, Matthew, David, Todd and Corey Townsend, John Dana and his wife, Heather, Katrina Dana and Dynesha and Bionca Burke; eight great-grandchildren, Aimee, Aaron Creston and Benjamin Shoaf, Atticus, Hazel and Edith Townsend, and Brayden Dana; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be after at Woodland Cemetery.
