Four candidates interviewed for Bucksport chief

Updated:

BUCKSPORT, Maine — The town is one step closer to selecting a new police chief.

The search committee on Tuesday completed the last of four interviews for the post that will be vacated at the end of this month by longtime Chief Douglas Gray.

According to Town Manager Roger Raymond, the town received about 30 applications for the post. Raymond interviewed several candidates and selected four for the committee to interview.

The committee is scheduled to meet again next week to review the candidates and make its recommendation to the town manager. Raymond said he expects to present a nominee to the full Town Council at its May 28 meeting.

The new chief likely will start work sometime between June 1 and July 1, Raymond said. Gray is on medical leave, so it is possible that the new chief could start earlier than June 1, he said.
