PORTLAND, Maine — A 50-year-old Skowhegan man who was indicted on a manslaughter charge arising from a gunshot death last month in South Portland plans to turn himself in Tuesday.

Bruce LaVallee-Davidson was charged last week with killing 50-year-old Fred Wilson in the basement of Wilson’s home in the Willard Beach neighborhood.

Police initially planned to take LaVallee-Davidson into custody Monday, but he is on an out-of-state trip and won’t be returning until Tuesday.

Authorities said LaVallee-Davidson and Wilson were friends. According to investigators, the shooting occurred April 18 when LaVallee-Davidson pointed what he thought was an unloaded handgun at Wilson and shot him in the head.
