ECSU wins Little East title

At Gorham, sophomore Bobby Doyon hit two home runs and had five RBIs to lead No. 3 Keene State College to victory over No. 1 University of Southern Maine of Gorham in the semifinal of the Little East Conference tournament 7-2 Saturday. Eastern Connecticut State University took the title over Keene State 14-5. In Saturday’s first game, Ben Sonberg allowed one run on four hits and two walks over 6 2/3 innings while striking out four for Keene State. Chris Burleson and Mike Eaton hit solo home runs for the Huskies. Eaton also singled. In the championship game, Melvin Castillo hit two home runs, a single and knocked in five runs to lead ECSU to the title. Tournament MVP Shawn Gilblair had two singles and two RBIs. Tyler DiPrato homered and singled with two RBIs to lead Keene State.




Searsport 11, Sumner 1

At Searsport on Friday, Evan Kingsbury and Rocky Faunce combined on a three-hitter as Searsport rolled past Sumner of East Sullivan. Matt Bagley hit two singles and drove in two runs while Kingsbury chipped in with an RBI single for the Vikings. Matt Manning had an RBI single for Sumner.

Ashland 10, Fort Fairfield 3

At Ashland, Jeremy Tarr hit a two-run single and stole home to highlight a five-run sixth inning as Ashland defeated Fort Fairfield. Carl Nemer hit a home run and a single while Henry Milligan had two singles and an RBI for the Hornets. Josh Churchill had two singles and an RBI while Ian Towle added two singles for Fort Fairfield.

Ellsworth sweeps Caribou

At Ellsworth, Mickey Manning had four hits and five RBIs to lead the Ellsworth Eagles to 6-3 and 7-0 victories over Caribou Saturday. In the first game, Patrick Kelley pitched a four-hitter while getting three strikeouts and walking no one. Manning hit a two-run triple with two outs to score the winning run and spark a five-run fifth. Jordan Carter had two singles and an RBI. Ted Walker hit a two-run single and Pat Thibodeau added a double for the Vikings. In the second game, John Carlin limited the Vikings to two hits while Manning had two singles and three RBIs. Dakota Jewett had a double and a single. For the Vikings, Phil St. Peter and Chad McCarthy singled for the only Caribou hits.

Presque Isle sweeps Foxcroft

At Presque Isle, Presque Isle swept a doubleheader with Foxcroft Academy after the second game was called because of weather in the sixth inning. The Wildcats took the first game 10-4 and the second 8-7. In the first game, Matt Chasse had two singles, a double and three RBIs to spark Presque Isle. Steven Ford hit three singles and drove in two runs. Josh Conroy and Kyo Mikame each hit two singles for Foxcroft. In the second game, Isaac LaJoie posted two singles and an RBI to lead the Wildcats. Ethan Braley doubled and singled while Brennan Shaw added a two-run single. Jamie Nason and Mikame each doubled and singled to pace Foxcroft Academy. Josiah Richard and D.J. Clukey had two singles apiece.

Katahdin sweeps Bangor Christian

At Bangor, Andy Kay hit a home run in each game as Katahdin of Stacyville swept Bangor Christian 11-1 in the first game and 6-3 in the second. In the first game, Kay had a home run, two singles and struck out 13 for the Cougars. Mook McGraw homered and doubled. Evan McCarthy had two singles and three RBIs and Ethan Qualey added two singles. Jon Johnson led the Patriots with a double and a single. In the second game, Kay hit a single and a two-run home run for Katahdin. McGraw doubled and singled and Qualey hit two singles. The Cougars turned three double plays. Tyler Alexander hit an RBI single to pace the Patriots.

Fort Kent, Southern Aroostook split

At Fort Kent, Jared Soucy singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Fort Kent rallied past Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook 5-4 in the first game of a doubleheader. Southern Aroostook took the second game 5-4. In the first game, Soucy finished with two singles to lead Fort Kent. Pat Goodall hit a grand slam in the first inning for Southern Aroostook. In the second game, Steve Grant posted two doubles, a single and an RBI to spark Southern Aroostook. Anthony Diaferio added an RBI double. Soucy had two singles and an RBI while Nick Michaud hit an RBI double for Fort Kent.


Fort Fairfield 7, Ashland 2

At Ashland, Kelsie York struck out 12 as Fort Fairfield defeated Ashland. Amanda Hotham hit a two-run single in the five-run fifth inning for Fort Fairfield. Sarah Hebert singled and scored a run. Mariah Cook hit an RBI single for the Hornets and Suzanne Poulin added a single and a run scored.

Ellsworth sweeps Caribou

At Ellsworth, Anna Seavey hit three singles and knocked in five runs as Ellsworth defeated Caribou 12-9 in Saturday’s second game. The Eagles also won the first game 14-12. In the first game, Maggie Harding tripled and singled with four RBIs for Ellsworth. Casey Wyman hit three singles and Lily Cooper added a triple and four runs scored. Katie Ouellette hit two triples and knocked in two runs to lead Caribou. Ashley Doucette had two doubles and two RBIs and Kristen Espling had two singles, two RBIs and three runs scored. In the second game, Ashley Smith had a triple, two singles and three RBIs for the Eagles. Cooper scored three runs. Jamie Martin had two singles, a double and three RBIs to pace Caribou. Doucette doubled and singled with two RBIs.

Presque Isle sweeps Foxcroft

At Presque Isle, Krista Coffin tossed a complete game giving up one run on four hits with nine strikeouts to lead Presque Isle by Foxcroft Academy 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. The Wildcats won the second game 6-4. In the first game, Chelsea Nickerson hit two singles while Coffin helped her own cause with a two-run double. Courtney Withee had an RBI single for Foxcroft Academy. In the second game, Kelsey Park had two singles, a triple and two RBIs to lead the Wildcats. Park added two singles and a triple while Caitlyn Esancy had three singles and two RBIs. Bekah Flanders posted two singles, a double and an RBI to pace the Ponies.

Richmond sweeps Greenville

At Richmond, Leandra Martin pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 15 as Richmond topped Greenville 11-0 in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader. The Bobcats took the second game 16-2. In the first game, Eticia Brickman posted a double, a single and four RBIs to propel Richmond. Danielle Bunikis doubled and singled with two RBIs while Katrina Hedgepath had two singles. Nikki Hamilton and Ruby Rockwell each hit a single for Greenville. In the second game, Brickman had two singles, a double and four RBIs to lead the Bobcats. Tara Hurley doubled and singled with three RBIs while Martin added three singles. Miranda Drinkwater doubled and singled for the Lakers.

Bangor Christian, Katahdin split

At Bangor, Kali Rush singled to left field with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in Kasey Bracket to lift Katahdin of Stacyville over Bangor Christian 22-21 in Saturday’s second game. The Patriots won the first game 9-3. In the first game, Chelsea Brasslett hit two singles and scored three runs to lead Bangor Christian. Kelly Robinson hit a two-run double and a sacrifice fly. Monica Alexander singled twice. Melissa Duff singled and knocked in a run for Katahdin. In the second game, Duffy hit three singles for the Cougars. Krista Adams had two singles. Robinson paced the Patriots with a double, two singles and an RBI. Katherine Bragg doubled.
