BREWER, Maine — Police are on the lookout for a suspect in an armed robbery Monday at a Parkway South residence.

The robbery occurred just before 2:30 p.m. Monday when a man armed with a knife turned up at the home and demanded cash from a male who lives there, according to Brewer police Detective Sgt. Jay Munson. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled on foot, Munson said.

According to Brewer police officials investigating the incident, the family that resides at that location is in the restaurant business and the robber got away with some of the business’s cash receipts that had not yet been deposited.

The male who was robbed is not being identified because the Bangor Daily News does not typically disclose the names of crime victims.

Though Brewer police are leading the investigation, they received a great deal of assistance at the crime scene, largely because of a training exercise for police who work with tracking dogs that was being conducted in nearby Bangor.

At least three tracking dogs and their handlers from Brewer, Bangor and Ellsworth, who had been attending the exercise, as well as state and county police converged on the area within minutes of the alarm.

They searched for the suspect in a thickly wooded area that includes a residential neighborhood as well as railroad tracks and a recreational trail that could have been used as an escape route.

Just down the street from the city’s new public safety complex, the area also is handy to Interstate 395 and Brewer’s Wilson Street commercial corridor.

Munson said the suspect is described as being in his 20s and between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing jeans and a red cap at the time of the incident.

Despite all the tracking-dog power at the crime scene, the suspect remained at large late Monday night.
