PORTLAND, Maine — A 50-year-old Skowhegan man has been indicted on a manslaughter charge in the April 18 shooting death of a South Portland man in the basement of his home.

Investigators said Bruce Lavallee-Davidson was reckless and negligent when he pointed what he thought was an unloaded handgun at 50-year-old Fred Wilson and fired one shot, hitting him in the head.

Lavallee-Davidson and Wilson, who worked as a computer consultant, were described as friends. Deputy Attorney General William Stokes said the case involves mishandling of a gun, and there was no intent to cause death or injury.

The indictment was handed up Friday. Lavallee-Davidson is expected to turn himself in at the Cumberland County Jail on Monday and likely will make his initial court appearance later in the week.
