Police find illegal knife at Milford fight scene

A brewing fight between 30 to 40 high school-age people Tuesday evening near the transfer station on Old County Road in Milford ended peacefully, but one teen was arrested for having a dangerous knife, Maine State Police Trooper Chris Hashey said Thursday.

“We were told people were armed with baseball bats” but “a fight didn’t actually occur,” he said.

The teens, who came from several area towns, attempted to leave the scene when they saw Maine State Police troopers, Old Town Police officers, and deputies from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department converging on the area, but they were blocked, Hashey said.

The teens were searched for weapons, and Seth Hopkins, 18, was found with a spring-loaded blade, which is illegal in Maine. He was arrested for trafficking in dangerous knives and for violating his bail conditions and taken to Penobscot County Jail. He later was released, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
