WINTERPORT, Maine — Traffic through the village was backed up early Thursday after a car hit a power pole, drooping it and wires across Route 1A.

Peter Wing, 45, of Searsport suffered minor injuries in the 6:11 a.m. crash. It took a Central Maine Power crew a couple of hours to remove the wires and replace the pole.

Wing was driving north in a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina when his car suddenly veered into the opposite lane. Wing turned back into his travel lane but overcorrected and went onto a lawn at 379 South Main St. and hit the pole. The car was totaled.

State Trooper Corey Smith was assisted at the scene by Waldo County Deputy Sheriff Ben Seekins. Winterport Fire and Ambulance also responded to the scene, according to Waldo County Chief Deputy Robert Keating.
