Pickup truck strikes woman in Rockland

ROCKLAND, Maine — A Tenants Harbor woman was struck by a pickup truck Saturday after-noon while walking on Main Street and was taken to the hospital with a broken ankle.

Witnesses to the accident said that Donna Ditchett, 62, was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk, accord-ing to Rockland police reports. Duane Carr Jr., 22, of Rockland told police he was turning left onto Main Street from School Street and was looking at on-coming traffic — away from Ditchett — as he turned. Carr was unable to stop in time and the 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck struck the pedestrian.

Ditchett was taken by ambulance to Penobscot Bay Medical Center’s emergency room, where she was treated for a fractured left ankle, according to the police report.
