BANGOR, Maine — A British woman who allegedly consumed prescription drugs and wine and then chased them with liquid soap from a London-bound jetliner’s lavatory returns to court Monday.

Galina Rusanova, a Russian-born artist who lives in London, awaited a detention hearing in U.S. District Court after spending the weekend in a Maine jail. She faces federal charges of assault and interference with a flight crew.

Prosecutors say the 54-year-old Rusanova punched and kicked attendants and began “snapping like a dog” while trying to bite a crew member’s leg.

The FBI said she had gone to Los Angeles to visit a man she met over the Internet and was returning Wednesday when her flight was diverted to Bangor.
