EAST MILLINOCKET, Maine — The cause of a house fire early Tuesday morning on Beech Street remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire at 28 Beech St. was reported at 4:26 a.m., East Millinocket Assistant Fire Chief John Miner said. He said the fire appears to have started on a porch but that its cause had yet to be determined as of late Tuesday.

According to Miner, the house was not occupied when the fire broke out.

He said the homeowner’s name was not immediately available and that it was not yet clear if the house was insured.

He said the house was heavily damaged by the fire, which burned so hot that it melted the vinyl siding on a house next door. No firefighters were injured battling the blaze.
