PORTLAND, Maine — The Maine Attorney General’s Office and Portland police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man by police.
The name of the man killed Saturday night was not released immediately.
Interim Chief Joseph Loughlin said the man was Sudanese and that police were meeting with members of the Sudanese community, according to the Portland Press Herald.
The newspaper reported that police received a call around 7:30 p.m. Saturday about a man with a gun on Weymouth Street.
The Attorney General’s Office investigates all uses of deadly force by law enforcement officials to determine whether it was legally justified.
