ORLAND, Maine — A Bucksport man remained in critical condition Sunday afternoon after an accident Friday night.

According to a report from Deputy Jeff McFarland of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, Norman J. Rockwell, 37, of Bucksport was traveling north on the Castine Road (Route 175) in Orland at about 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Rockwell pulled out into the southbound lane and started to pass another vehicle on a curve, McFarland said. He pulled into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by Jessica L. Mills, 24, of Orland. Mills was unable to avoid Rockwell’s 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle, which struck her Jeep Cherokee.

Rockwell suffered head injuries in the crash and was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor where he was listed in critical condition Saturday afternoon. McFarland said Rockwell was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Mills also was taken to EMMC to be checked for injuries.

Rockwell’s motorcycle was demolished in the accident. Mill’s Jeep had an estimated $1,000 in damage.
