Two men from the midcoast region were taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after a car crash and resulting car fire that tied up traffic in Rockport.
The collision happened around 12:30 p.m. when Eric Vultee, 39, of Rockport was waiting to turn left off Route 90. Justin Podrasky, 24, of Waldoboro apparently did not notice the stopped vehicle in time and crashed into the rear of Vultee’s SUV, said Rockport Police Chief Mark Kelley.
The crash happened on a stretch of Route 90 where the speed limit is 55 mph, and the force of the collision sent Vultee’s vehicle about 150 feet down the road. The impact also apparently ruptured the SUV’s gas tank, which then ignited, Kelley said.
Vultee was able to climb out of the SUV on his own. He was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport with minor injuries, Kelley said.
Podrasky, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time, appeared to suffer head, neck and chest injuries, Kelley said. He also was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center for treatment.
No charges have been filed.
