With the end of snow (we hope) and the beginning of street-sweeping season, it’s time to oil-up the Huffy. But is Maine a safe state in which to bicycle? Do road planners take them into consideration, and include shoulders? What about in service center towns — are drivers sensitive to giving bicyclists a safe buffer? Should more be done to make bicycling safer? Or do Maine’s long winters and windy, hilly roads make it impractical?
