BANGOR, Maine — A building on Main Street will be burned down Sunday morning as part of a controlled-burn exercise for the city Fire Department.
Asst. Fire Chief Rick Cheverie said the department’s plan is to start as early as 7:30 a.m. with some small practice fires the department will set inside the building. The building will eventually be burned down.
The building, part of the former Gosselin’s-Henry’s Bridal store on Main Street, must be removed from the site to make way for a Tim Hortons coffee shop and restaurant.
The department has been using the building, and a two-story apartment building next door that was razed earlier this week, for training on venting roofs, tearing down and breaching walls, and conducting search and rescue operations.
Construction on Tim Hortons is set to begin later this spring.
