PORTLAND, Maine — Last-minute tax filers in Maine’s largest city shouldn’t count on filing late Tuesday, slipping in before the midnight deadline.

The U.S. Postal Service has kept extended hours in Portland in past years on April 15, the deadline for Americans to file their tax returns. But it’s keeping regular hours this year, partly because so many people are filing their tax returns online.

Meanwhile, tax day protests are being held in several locations across Maine. The Maine Tea Party says events are planned from Portland to Presque Isle.
