Presque Isle airport to get recovery funds

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Transportation will release $2.5 million to the state of Maine to extend the taxiway at the Northern Maine Regional Airport in Presque Isle, U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud announced Wednesday.

“This is great news for northern Maine,” said the 2nd District Democrat. “This funding will allow the regional airport in Presque Isle to further improve facilities and encourage greater economic development in northern Maine.”

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds have designated airports of the National Airport System to be eligible for funding. The Federal Aviation Administration identified the eligible airports based on a discretionary basis and priority project system that addressed infrastructure, runway safety, increased capacity, safety and security and environmental impacts.
