Combating piracy

The takeover of a U.S. ship by Somali pirates ended dramatically and, most important, with the ship’s captain, who had been held hostage in a life boat for five days, safe and unharmed. Other countries have paid millions of dollars to pirates for the return of their ships. The U.S. approach appears more effective, but can it be replicated? Should the U.S. Navy patrol the Gulf of Aden to put a stop to the piracy? Should pirate ships be blown out of the water?
