Brewer Bantams win ice crown

The Brewer Youth Hockey Bantam travel hockey team capped off its successful 2008-2009 season by winning the inaugural CDS Founders Cup Tournament March 27-29 at Kennebec Ice Arena. The tournament featured three of the top four teams in Maine.

Brewer Youth Hockey outscored Gardiner Youth Hockey 4-2 and the Capital District 3-1. After falling to Lewiston 3-2 in the third game of the day, the Brewer Bantams used their skill and team play to triumph in the championship game, this time defeating Lewiston 5-2.

The Brewer Bantams finished their season with a 30-4-3 record. They were sponsored by Machias Savings Bank. The Bantams had a strong finish to the regular season and a dominating performance in Competitive B playoffs, outscoring their opponents 17-4.

The Brewer Bantams fell to a tough Casco Bay team in the Maine State Championships 2-1 in an exciting triple overtime game.
