Lee Academy named winner of trade award

ORONO, Maine — Lee Academy has been named a winner of a 2009 Maine International Trade and Investment Awards, and will be recognized along with three companies and two individuals active in business.

The winners will be honored during the Maine International Trade Center’s annual Trade Day event, which will be held May 28 at the University of Maine.

Lee Academy, located in Lee, was named the International Innovator of the Year for its growing international student population and the announcement of planned schools in China and Korea.

Elmet Technologies Inc. of Lewiston was named the Exporter of the Year. A.N. Deringer, a Vermont-based international logistics service provider with offices in Bangor, Calais and Jackman, was picked as the Service Provider of the Year. The International Investor of the Year was Cooke Aquaculture Inc. of Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick.

Cathy Lee, president of Westbrook-based Lee International, was named the recipient of the President’s Award. Andrew Totman of Brunswick, a junior at the University of Pennsylvania, was the winner of the new Future Global Leader Award given to the trade center’s most outstanding intern.
