ORONO, Maine — The state police and the Bangor Police Department are asking the public to be on the lookout for a man suspected of robbing two area convenience stores at gunpoint last weekend.

The suspect, identified as Travis Lawrence Gustin, is considered to be armed and dangerous. Police urged anyone who sees Gustin not to approach him. He remained on the loose Friday night, a state police dispatcher confirmed.

According to an alert released to the media Friday afternoon, police have probable cause for arresting Gustin in connection with both robberies.

Gustin also is wanted on several outstanding warrants, police said.

He is described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, 200 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

The first robbery occurred at 9:08 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Tom T. Irving Store at 1123 Broadway, also known as Route 15, in Bangor. The second robbery happened at 8:50 p.m. the next day just 10 miles away at Sam’s Qwik Stop on Route 15 near the Stetson Road intersection in the center of Kenduskeag.

In both cases, a person pointed a handgun at the store clerk and demanded cash. He escaped with an undisclosed amount of money in both cases. No one at either store was physically injured.

In their effort to apprehend the armed robber, police this week released surveillance footage that captured the suspect’s appearance and voice.

The footage showed a male wearing a dark-colored sweat shirt and a ski mask and armed with a black semiautomatic handgun.

It was not clear Friday whether Gustin was identified by someone who saw the footage.

Anyone with information about Gustin’s whereabouts should contact the state police barracks in Orono at 800-432-7381 or 866-2121.
