Hit-and-run victim dies; charges could be upgraded

The Associated Press

FRYEBURG, Maine — A 25-year-old Fryeburg woman has died of injuries she suffered in a hit-and-run accident, and charges against the 18-year-old driver may be upgraded.

The Sun Journal of Lewiston reports that Tiffany Hamilton died Friday at Central Maine Medical Center, where she had remained in critical condition since the accident in front of her home a day earlier.

The driver of the car that struck Hamilton, Tiffany Hamlyn of Brownfield, was charged initially with aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police said at the time of Hamlyn’s arrest three hours after the accident that the charges could be upgraded to manslaughter if Hamilton were to die.
