The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — A new report says that one in four Mainers under the age of 65 were without health insurance at some point in the past two years.

A report released Friday by the Washington-based Families USA organization said that about 280,000 Mainers were uninsured at some point in 2007 and 2008. The report goes on to say that two out of three Mainers were uninsured for six months or longer during that span.

Nationally, the report says about one in three Americans under 65 were uninsured at some point in 2007 and 2008.

Families USA based its findings on data from the Census Bureau and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
