Maine’s first mobile home park cooperative in Waldoboro

The Associated Press

WALDOBORO, Maine — A mobile home park along Maine’s midcoast has changed hands, and this time the new owners are the residents.

The purchase makes the Medomak Mobile Home Park in Waldoboro the first cooperatively owned mobile home park in Maine.

The Maine Sunday Telegram says the deal was arranged by the Genesis Community Loan Fund. The nonprofit hopes the project will be a model for similar ventures aimed at stabilizing living costs in an important segment of Maine’s affordable housing market.

After discussions with the Genesis Fund, 24 of the 32 homeowners at the mobile home park agreed to form a cooperative and buy their park for $410,000 from Midcoast Maine Community Action, a nonprofit that had owned the property since 1993 but was looking to sell.
