West Georgia sweeps Bates

At Carrollton, Ga., the University of West Georgia scored three runs on three hits in the sixth inning, countering a seven-run rally by Bates College of Lewiston in the top of the sixth, to win the afternoon’s second game 11-10. West Georgia also took the first game 7-3. In the first game, Cody Jackson doubled and singled to drive in two runs for West Georgia (8-17). Jud Jones also had two RBIs. Noah Burke singled three times to pace the Bobcats (2-4). Pat Murphy and Mike Ciummei each had two singles and an RBI. In the second game, B.J. Smith hit a double and two singles for the Wolves. Andrew Parrish doubled and singled with two RBIs. Chris Burke knocked in three runs for Bates. Murphy and Ciummei again had two singles and two RBIs apiece.

Southern Maine 5, Springfield 4

At Chandler, Ariz., University of Southern Maine of Gorham rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to defeat Springfield College of Massachusetts. The 4-1 Huskies scored on three straight doubles by Josh Mackey, Collin Henry and Anthony D’Alfonso. Andrew Stacy hit a triple and two singles. Henry added two singles. Jamie Mackey doubled and singled with two RBIs to lead Springfield (3-5). Ryan Tatreau had two singles and two RBIs.


Southern Maine swept

At Clermont, Fla., Amy Beideman drove in three runs as Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham defeated the University of Southern Maine 6-2 in the first game. Westfield State College topped the Huskies 9-1 in the second game. In the first game, Megan Golembiewski and Tina Banta combined to strikeout 10 for the Devils (7-2). Sarah Cusack tripled to lead the Huskies. Sarah Deroche and Heather Gilman doubled. In the second game, Jackie Mason tripled and singled with two runs and an RBI for Westfield State (1-0). Cusack doubled and singled for 0-2 Southern Maine.
