OAKLAND, Maine — A Maine State Police sergeant has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of a felony charge of aggravated domestic assault.

Sgt. Mark Sawyer was arrested on Monday after police were called to his home in Oakland. Oakland police did not reveal details of the alleged assault.

State police spokesman Steve McCausland said Sawyer has been with the state police for 23 years and works on the commercial vehicle enforcement unit.
