County break-in draws attention of Crimestoppers

WALLAGRASS, Maine — An early-morning burglary at a clubhouse has caught the eye of an area crime-fighting organization after an apparently hungry and thirsty thief took off with several goods from the building.

Sgt. Shawn Van Tasel of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday the incident is this month’s Aroostook County Crimestoppers Crime of the Month.

The break-in and theft at the Slybrook Snowmobile Club took place on Feb. 12, according to Van Tasel.

Van Tasel said that the Sly Brook Road building was empty when an unknown number of intruders entered the clubhouse through an unlocked door.

Once inside, the intruders forced their way into the kitchen area of the facility and stole $50 and a case of hot dogs.

With goods in hand, the intruders made their way into a nearby furnace room where there were several cases of soda.

The sergeant said the thieves gathered up several cases of Pepsi and Canada Dry ginger ale and also stole a number of baseball caps.

Crimestoppers is a nonprofit organization that helps law enforcement solve crimes.
